The active substance belongs to antibacterial bactericidal agents from the group of 3rd generation fluoroquinolones. Capable of blocking the bacterial enzyme responsible for cell division and enlargement. As a result, the death of infectious cells occurs. Active against many strains of pathogenic bacteria and microorganisms:

  • aerobic gram-positive bacteria (enterococci, listeria, staphylococci, streptococci);
  • aerobic gram-negative bacteria (Gardnerella, Enterobacter, Citrobacter, Helicobacter, Klebsiella, Nisseria, Salmonella);
  • other microorganisms (chlamydia, mycobacteria, mycoplasma, ureaplasma).

The antibiotic is fast acting. Levofloxacin helps with prostatitis for a short time - after 2-3 days the inflammation begins to decrease.

Indications

The drug has a wide spectrum of action. Prescribed for the treatment of various diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria. It is used in various fields of medicine: urology, venereology, gynecology, gastroenterology, phthisiology and others.

Use with caution when:

  • diseases of the nervous system;

Instructions for use

The drug is prescribed after identifying the causative agent of the disease. During treatment, it is necessary to undergo repeated tests to determine the effectiveness and dose adjustment.

The course of treatment with Levofloxacin for prostatitis is 4 weeks. The dosage is determined individually, depending on the patient’s condition and physical characteristics.

Pills

At the initial stage of the disease, it is enough to take 250 mg of the drug per day.

For chronic prostatitis, the dosage of Levofloxacin is 500 mg/day. In the first days, the dose can be divided into 2 doses with an interval of 12 hours. Then switch to a one-time dose.

It is necessary to take the tablets at the same time, without chewing them and drinking plenty of water.

In case of acute prostatitis of bacterial origin, the dose may be increased at the discretion of the doctor.

Solution for infusion

In the acute stage of the disease, intravenous medication may be prescribed at the beginning of treatment. Administration must be done by drop method over an hour. The duration of therapy is most often 3 days, then it is recommended to switch to oral administration of the medication.

Analogs

There are very few cases where Levofloxacin does not help with prostatitis. However, if repeated tests reveal bacterial resistance to the drug, the doctor should prescribe another treatment.

Levofloxacin can be replaced with drugs with similar effects. They may have a different composition or release form:

  1. Tavanic (active component levofloxacin, release form - tablets, solution).
  2. Ofloxacin (active ingredient of the same name, tablets and solution are available).
  3. Amoxiclav (active component amoxicillin + clavulanic acid, tablets and injections for intravenous administration are available).
