Treatment of prostatitis with Metronidazole

Metronidazole for prostatitis is prescribed when the infectious origin of the disease is identified. Release form and composition

Suppositories are available in dosages of 100, 250 and 500 mg of metronidazole.

This drug is active against protozoa, as well as some gram-negative and gram-positive anaerobic microorganisms:

  • lamblia;
  • trichomonas;
  • amoeba;
  • gardanella;
  • peptococci;
  • clostridia.

Aerobic bacteria are not susceptible to this medicine.

Metronidazole affects cell DNA, disrupts the synthesis of enzymes and proteins, which leads to the death of microorganisms.

The effectiveness of treating prostatitis with Metronidazole is achieved due to the ability of the active substance to penetrate all tissues. Pathogenic microflora is destroyed not only in the prostate, but throughout the body.

The active substance has rapid absorption and a low rate of elimination from the body. The main part of the drug settles on the mucous membrane and destroys microorganisms.

Indications

  • gynecological diseases (vaginitis, adnexitis, vaginosis);
  • diseases of the brain and respiratory system (meningitis, pneumonia and others);
  • skin infections;
  • diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (caused by Helicobacter pylori).

Contraindications

The medicine has a number of contraindications. These include:

  • individual intolerance;
  • serious liver dysfunction;
  • diseases of the central nervous system (epilepsy);
  • leukopenia.

Use with caution in case of renal and liver failure. In these cases, a dosage reduction is indicated.

If you are intolerant to the medicine or take it incorrectly, side effects may occur, such as:

  • digestive system disorder (nausea, vomiting, stool disorder, pancreatitis);
  • dry mouth or metallic taste;
  • allergic reactions (rash, hives, increased sweating);
  • problems of the genitourinary system (urinary incontinence, change in its color).

Taking Metronidazole for prostatitis is tedious three times a day, 250 mg of the active substance. Should be consumed during or after meals. It is advisable to take the tablets with milk.
