Hot baths for prostatitis can be an excellent remedy for complex treatment. But to do this, you must strictly adhere to certain rules and recommendations (especially temperature conditions), and also obtain approval during a consultation with the treating urologist. To enhance the healing effect, they are often supplemented with herbal medicine, using various herbal decoctions in baths.
Positive and negative influence
Hydrotherapy is one of the oldest methods of treating a wide range of diseases, known back to Ancient Greece. You can take a hot bath for prostatitis, because when carried out correctly, water procedures can have a number of positive effects:
- blood flow improves, which helps reduce inflammation;
- a warm bath for prostatitis stimulates potency and erectile function (however, too hot water can only worsen these indicators even for healthy men);
- relaxes muscles;
- helps cleanse the body;
- increases tone;
- stimulates and strengthens the cardiovascular system;
- You can take baths with prostate adenoma to relieve tissue swelling. This helps normalize the process of urination and also reduces pain.
Another advantage of this method is that it can be used at home. However, such therapy is not complete and can only be used in addition to medication and only when prescribed by a doctor. This is because in some cases bathing may be prohibited or limited:
- in acute infectious course of the disease. With increased blood flow, the infection can spread to nearby tissues and organs, which will only intensify the inflammatory process. Therefore, hydrotherapy in this case can only occur with successful drug treatment of the infection;
- for hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases (there are restrictive measures on the permissible temperature and duration of procedures);
- sometimes in a chronic disease, hot water can cause an exacerbation;
- Allergic reactions, peeling and redness of the skin, and itching may occur.
Warm baths can be used not only as therapy, but also as a preventive measure.
Acceptance rules
First of all, you need to understand that in case of prostate diseases, self-medication can lead to serious complications, including cancer and infertility. Therefore, the use of any means should occur only after consultation and approval of a urologist.
For the positive effects of hydrotherapy, you should adhere to some rules and recommendations:
- Baths can be taken both during chronic and acute stages of inflammation. But in each case the recommended temperature is different. For an acute form it should be about 37-39 °C, for a chronic form - 40-42 °C.
- The ambient air must be at least 25 °C to avoid sudden temperature changes.
- The level of the body at which the heart is located should be above the water level.
- The duration of the procedures should be 15-20 minutes.
- It is advisable to take baths before bedtime. This will relax the body, which will provide better quality rest (and this is no less important for the success of treatment!).
- If after hydrotherapy you feel lethargic, your body temperature rises, you feel chills or fever, or insomnia occurs, you should stop using this method.
Medicinal and beneficial supplements
The positive effects of hydrotherapy can be enhanced through the use of various herbal ingredients. It is recommended to take baths for prostatitis with the following additives:
- Pine needles (has an antibacterial and tonic effect due to the content of essential oils). To prepare the additive, pour boiling water over 200 g of pine branches and keep on low heat for 2-3 hours. Add the resulting decoction to the water when bathing.
- A mixture of chamomile, thyme and St. John's wort. Prepare in the same way as the previous recipe.
- Lavender or lavender oil.
- Horsetail
- Turpentine is often used as an additive. To do this, it is poured into warm (about 40 °C) water, increasing the amount with each procedure. Start with 20 ml, end with 60 ml, the course consists of 10 procedures, no more than 1 procedure within 3 days. The duration of administration should not exceed 15 minutes. If any unpleasant sensations occur, stop this method of treatment.
- Narzan baths for prostate adenoma (or the use of other mineral waters) are also popular, but they cannot be carried out at home; for this you should contact a sanatorium.
