Viferon for prostatitis is an effective additional remedy in the complex treatment of the disease. It combines well with other medications. Has a minimum of contraindications.

Release form and composition
The drug Viferon is available in three types. For external use – ointment, gel. For internal use - rectal suppositories.
The main active ingredient is human recombinant interferon alpha-2b. Excipients in the suppository: α-tocopherol acetate (vitamin E), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), sodium ascorbate, disodium edetate dihydrate, polysorbate.
The base used is different, depending on the type of drug. For candles - cocoa butter and confectionery fat, for ointment - lanolin, petroleum jelly, peach oil, for gel - glycerin.
Viferon suppositories for prostatitis are available in 4 types depending on the concentration of the main substance: 150,000, 500,000, 1,000,000, 3,000,000 IU. The package contains 10 oval-shaped suppositories, 5 pieces in a blister, with a diameter of no more than 10 mm. Rectal suppositories are white with a yellowish tint. Marbling of color and a funnel-shaped depression on the longitudinal section are allowed.

Thanks to the content of interferon alpha 2b - human recombinant, Viferon has the following effects:
- anti-inflammatory;
- antiviral;
- immunomodulatory;
- antibacterial.
In addition, interferon blocks the proliferation of diseased cells.
Vitamin C helps strengthen blood vessels, eliminate toxins and waste. It affects the improvement of the functioning of the endocrine glands, accelerates tissue restoration, and improves the process of hematopoiesis.
Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant. Helps purify the blood and reduces the risk of blood clots. Together with vitamin C, its anticarcinogenic properties increase.
Cocoa butter contained in Viferon suppositories contains phospholipids, which make it possible not to use synthetic emulsifiers. Confectionery fat helps to keep its shape well and softens at body temperature. They promote rapid delivery to the site of inflammation and rapid absorption of medicinal components.
Indications
The drug Viferon is prescribed for:
- viral infections;
- chronic viral hepatitis, hepatitis complicated by cirrhosis of the liver;
- with weakened immunity;
- with acute herpes infection affecting the mucous membranes and skin;
- diseases of the genital area (chlamydia, trichomoniasis, ureaplasmosis, etc.);
- for prostate diseases - adenoma, prostatitis (including infectious).
Contraindications
Viferon has virtually no contraindications; side effects occasionally occur:
- allergic reaction (redness, itching, skin rashes) to the components of the drug;
- bowel disorders (diarrhea).
In this case, you must immediately stop using the medicine. Symptoms will disappear within 3 days.
Instructions for use
The dosage is determined by the doctor depending on the state of the immune system and the age of the patient, as well as depending on other medications prescribed.
Most often, suppositories with a concentration of the active substance of 500,000 IU are prescribed; the dosage is 2 suppositories per day (every 12 hours) for 5 to 10 days.
Before using Viferon suppositories, you need to make sure that you are not allergic to the components that make up the drug.
Before introducing suppositories, it is necessary to empty the intestines. If you cannot defecate on your own, you can use a cleansing enema.
It is best to insert the suppository in a supine position as deeply as possible. This must be done very carefully so as not to damage the rectal mucosa. To do this, you can lubricate the tip of the candle with rich cream. After administration, you need to lie down for another 15-20 minutes. It is advisable to carry out the evening procedure before bedtime, in which case the medicine will be absorbed with maximum efficiency.
After completing the procedure, you must wash your hands thoroughly.
Viferon suppositories for prostatitis combine well with other antibacterial drugs, immunostimulating agents and glucocorticosteroids.
The medicine must be stored in a dry place, protected from light, at a temperature of 2-8 °C. When opening the contour package, you must use the candle within 24 hours, otherwise it will lose some of its beneficial properties. The shelf life of the drug is 2 years.
