The drug is produced by several pharmaceutical companies. It exists in two dosage forms - tablets and granules for preparing a suspension. The product is sold by prescription only.
The active ingredient is josamycin.
Pills
Available in 2 types. They differ in concentration and method of use.
Vilprafen tablets, produced in a concentration of 500 mg josamycin, have an oblong shape, convex on both sides. Enclosed in a white film shell, consumed orally. Additional components are: cellulose, polysorb, carmellose sodium, titanium dioxide, aluminum hydroxide. Sold in cardboard boxes with a blister of 10 pieces.
Vilprafen Solutab is produced in a concentration of 1000 mg. Tablets are oval-shaped, white, with inscriptions on both sides, with the smell of strawberry. When consumed, they dissolve in the mouth or water. The following additional components are used: cellulose, aspartame, polysorb, strawberry flavor, magnesium stearate. Sold in cardboard boxes with two blisters of 5 pieces.
Granules for preparing suspension
Produced in concentrations of 125 and 250 mg per 5 ml. Yellow granular powder with strawberry odor.
Additional components: sodium citrate, cellulose, mannitol, starch sucrose, strawberry flavor.
Available in 100 ml bottles, packaged in a cardboard box with instructions and a dosage syringe.
pharmachologic effect
Josamycin belongs to the group of natural macrolide antibiotics. It has a bacteriostatic effect on harmful microorganisms. Capable of stopping the growth and reproduction of bacteria. With prolonged use it exhibits a bactericidal effect.
The antibiotic has a wide spectrum of action. Affects large groups of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, intracellular organisms, as well as some anaerobic microorganisms:
- chlamydia;
- mycoplasma;
- ureaplasma;
- staphylococci;
- streptococci;
- Nisseria;
- peptococci;
- Tropenem.
Indications
The drug is prescribed for infections caused by bacteria susceptible to the active substance. Used in the treatment of:
- bacterial prostatitis (acute, chronic form);
- infections of the ENT organs and respiratory system (pharyngitis, scarlet fever, sinusitis, pneumonia);
- infections of internal organs (kidneys, bladder);
- infectious diseases of the oral cavity.
Contraindications
This antimicrobial drug, unlike many others, has a very small number of contraindications:
- allergic reactions when taking macrolide antibiotics;
- chronic liver diseases.
Incompatible with some medications. Before use, you should inform your doctor about the medications you are taking.
If you are intolerant to the drug or if the dose is exceeded, side effects occur:
- hearing impairment;
- hives;
- digestive disorders (loss of appetite, heartburn, nausea, diarrhea).

The duration of administration and dosage are determined based on the degree and nature of the disease.
Pills
Treatment regimen for prostatitis with Vilprafen 500 - 1 g per day (2 tablets) in 2 doses; in the acute stage, the dose can be doubled.
The dosage of Vilprafen for chronic prostatitis can be increased to 2 g/day, in 2-3 doses.
It is necessary to take Vilprafen tablets between meals. They cannot be chewed, they must be swallowed with a small amount of water. Solutab can be kept in the mouth until dissolved or diluted in water.
Granules for preparing suspension
It is necessary to take Vilprafen suspension for prostatitis depending on the form of the disease.
For chronic inflammation, the dosage is 1-1.5 g per day, in 2-3 doses.
In acute forms of prostatitis, the dose can be up to 2 g/day, also divided into several doses.
It is not permissible to increase the dosage above 2 g, as resistance of microorganisms to the drug may develop.
You cannot interrupt treatment and increase the dose yourself. The break between doses is no more than 12 hours. If you miss this time, you must immediately take the medicine and continue the course the next day.
You need to take Vilprafen for prostatitis for no more than 14 days, then you need to undergo diagnostics again.
Analogs
If for any reason Vilprafen is contraindicated, you can replace it with other drugs from the same group:
- Azithromycin.
- Clarithromycin.
Or drugs from another group of antibiotics:
- Tavanik.
- Amoxiclav.
