Abnormalities of the uterus

Doctors include all forms and varieties of acquired or congenital disorders of the structure of the internal genital organs as abnormalities of the uterus. Congenital anomalies are detected already at the stage of embryo formation using ultrasound examination. Acquired pathologies are diagnosed during a routine examination by a gynecologist. Uterine agenesis is a diagnosis that is made and effectively treated at the Other Gynecology clinic.

Causes

Congenital anomalies often develop due to hereditary factors. If the mother or grandmothers had similar disorders, then the child’s likelihood of developing it increases significantly. The main reasons for the development of uterine abnormalities in a baby include:

  • infectious diseases in the expectant mother (syphilis, rubella in the first trimester, influenza, measles, CMV);
  • extreme degree of toxicosis in the early stages;
  • metabolic diseases;
  • pathologies of the functioning of endocrine organs;
  • bad habits that lead to intoxication of the mother (drugs, alcohol, smoking, taking illegal medications);
  • radiation treatment or radiation exposure.

An acquired type of pathology develops with severe infectious diseases, trauma to internal organs, incorrect operations and under the influence of other external factors.

Kinds

Specialists at the “Other Gynecology” clinic identify the following types of uterine anomalies:

  1. Aplasia, uterine agenesis. It is distinguished by the absence of the uterus and cervix.
  2. Atresia. It consists of insufficient development, absence of the cervical canal or its fusion.
  3. Hyperplasia. It is distinguished by the large size of the uterus due to tissue proliferation.
  4. Hypoplasia. The pathology looks like a reduced reproductive organ with undeveloped tissues.
  5. Heterotopia. This anomaly can be asymptomatic for a long time and is often discovered by chance. It represents the appearance of uterine cells in other organs.
  6. Stenosis. It consists of a strong narrowing of the uterine cavity and cervical canal.
  7. Organ doubling. This is a congenital pathology, which consists in the development of two uteruses, which are connected to each other and the vagina by a special wall.
  8. Double uterus. The anomaly appears as two separate reproductive organs, with one ovary and one fallopian tube.

There are also congenital abnormalities of the uterine structure. A bicornuate uterus is often found. It is a fusion of the paramesonephric parts, which leads to incomplete duplication of the uterus. The reproductive organ looks like a heart. The saddle uterus is distinguished by the formation of a saddle between the horns of the organ. These pathologies lead to severe pain during menstruation.
